My creative space...

Bear Hat
Bear Hat - sad bear Bear Hat
Turi's name is Spanish in origin and means 'bear'.  This is largely why I chose it (seeing as my husband put his foot down and said I was absolutely not allowed to name him Bear.  I think he was worried people might think we had named him after Bear Grylls - though seriously what would be wrong with that??)  Anyway, I digress.  I often call him 'little bear' - so I decided It would be fun to make him a winter hat inspired by his name sake.  It is made with lovely soft chestnut coloured wool I picked up at Tessuti and lined with cream coloured flannel.  The pattern is from Liesl Gibson's Little Things to Sew.  Don't be at all surprised if you receive one of these from me for your baby  - I'm getting cute overload seeing Turi wear it and want to share the love!

  1. Absolutely adorable! :)
That blue wall makes for an awesome background.

I'm pretty sure you know this, but I couldn't help but clarify; Turi means bear in Spanish in the same way that Susan means lily in English (ie. only in some obscure meaning-of-names kind of way). :)

Is there an Easter Bunny hat on its way? I think Turi Bear's cute little teeth would complement one beautifully.

  2. I have some other plans for easter gifts - though maybe a bunny hat might be a good idea too.
As for name meanings - that was what I was trying to say - not that Turi literally means bear in spanish - clearly I didn't articulate myself very well!

  4. This is so, so cute. I ordered this book last week. Now I'm looking forward to it even more :)
I miss Wonthaggi- lived there as a teenager. I remember doing the op shop rounds there with my best friend! Looks like the prices are still the same.

  6. Oh how cute!!!! I made something similar out of fleece, a mouse for my little girl and even though it's 80 out she's still wanting to wear it hahahaha so watch out, you may never get little bear to take it off!
